From humble beginnings working out of a spare bedroom in South Texas, we have taken pride in providing a new alternative for those who prefer a different take on the status-quo. We don't buy into the perception that, as a western brand, our designs have to lag behind trends in other markets like athletic, surf and street. We design with the philosophy that we not only have the ability to keep pace with these markets, but we should also seize any opportunity to lead them.

Hooey is a brand that was founded on the belief that western kids deserve access to a more progressive brand that represents their passion and interests. In 2009, Hooey founder Joey Austin launched the brand with just two hat designs after returning home from California to Texas.

The name "Hooey" refers to the knot a cowboy uses to finish tying a calf's legs together in tie-down roping rodeos. This reflects the authenticity of the Hooey brand, as the team is still actively involved in rodeo and western sports on a daily basis. Hooey does not just market this lifestyle - the team lives it.
