The Hooey brand was founded by Joey Austin, who wanted to give western kids access to a more progressive brand that represented their passion and interests. After returning home from California to Texas in 2009, Joey launched Hooey with just two hat designs.

The term 'hooey' refers to the knot a cowboy uses to finish tying a calf's legs together in tie-down roping rodeos. What makes Hooey a strong brand is its authenticity - the Hooey team is still involved in rodeo and western sports on a daily basis. They don't just believe in marketing this lifestyle, they live it.
